I am often asked where to eat in Vienna, and after more than two years of living here, I can finally share a list of my favorite places!
Vienna is a city that offers an incredible variety of culinary options, and those who know me are aware of how much I love exploring different cuisines. 🙂
From sushi to Middle Eastern food, to traditional Austrian restaurants and the best street food options. In this article, you will find my personal recommendations, based on firsthand experiences and a selection of restaurants that continue to impress me, both for the quality of the food and the atmosphere. So, if you’re looking for places to eat in Vienna, whether for a quick lunch or a special dinner, this guide is for you!
Budapest Bagel Vienna – Perfect for a quick bagel. Great quality, and they also have vegan options. Highly recommended! Get ready to make a mess with the super-filled bagels, but trust me, it’s worth it. 🙂
Miznon Vienna – We haven’t been here personally, but everyone raves about their stuffed pitas. Located just a stone’s throw from St. Stephen’s Cathedral, it’s ideal for a quick yet delicious lunch!
Henry Billa Corso – Inside Billa Corso at Neuer Markt 17 (just a short walk from St. Stephen’s Cathedral), you can create your own takeaway meal for just €2.49 per kg. There are plenty of options, including rice, vegetables, curry, roasted potatoes, and gluten-free and vegan choices. We often take ours to Burggarten for a picnic.
Billa Pflanzilla – A special tip for vegans! Located at Mariahilfer Str. 42-48, 1070, you’ll find a fully vegan Billa supermarket. Just follow the signs for Billa Plus, and right next to it, you’ll spot Pflanzilla. Here, everything is 100% vegan, and you can also put together a takeaway meal. Honest opinion? Their vegan raspberry-filled croissant is one of the best (and most affordable) in Vienna!
Blue Orange Coffee Bagel – As a huge bagel fan, I couldn’t leave this one out. 🙂 I recommend the location near Naschmarkt at Margaretenstraße 9, 1040.
Ulrich Vienna – We often come here for lunch. Great value for money!
Dr. Falafel – If you love noodles and street food, don’t miss Dr. Falafel at Naschmarkt! Affordable prices, generous portions, and delicious noodles make it the perfect spot for a quick, budget-friendly meal.
Constantly updating! 🙂
Kitcha – A lovely place with prices in line with Vienna’s average. The rolls are good, and there are several vegan options available.
Matcha Komachi – Great sushi at fair prices, right in the city center. The fish is fresh, and they also have excellent vegan options.
Bao Mebu – More focused on bowls and Bao rather than sushi, but still a great spot. Centrally located and perfect for a quick lunch. The bowls are delicious!
Mei Shi – Famous for its onigiri and sushi. There are two locations near Westbahnhof and Mariahilferstrasse. We often grab takeout from here and enjoy a picnic in the park.
Cha no Ma – Freshly made onigiri to-go. Simply amazing! Just a short walk from Naschmarkt.
Sajado Zollergasse – Our top pick for quality-price ratio. If you visit on the weekend, you’ll probably find us here for dinner! 🙂 Be warned, they don’t hold back on the spice, but I highly recommend the nigiri!
Pulkautaler – Located near Westbahnhof, this restaurant was tested and approved by Fabio’s parents, who loved the famous Schnitzel! They also offer vegetarian options.
Figlmüller – Famous for its Schnitzel, this historic restaurant is a must-visit. Be sure to book well in advance on their website.
“Gasthaus” for traditional Austrian cuisine – I often get asked where to eat authentic Austrian food, but since Fabio and I don’t eat meat, I struggle to recommend specific places. However, here’s a tip that will surely help you: search for “Gasthaus” on Google Maps and check out the highest-rated places near you (at least 4.5 stars). These are essentially Austria’s traditional taverns, so you can’t go wrong for local dishes at reasonable prices. The further you move from the city center, the lower the prices. 🙂
Neni – You can choose between the location at Naschmarkt or the one at Prater, both offering amazing Middle Eastern dishes. The Naschmarkt branch is more casual and relaxed, while the Prater location is more elegant, with a beautiful view of the amusement park. Be sure to book in advance for the Prater location!
Seven North – Our absolute favorite restaurant! Make sure to book in advance and save room for dessert – their portions are generous and absolutely worth it. I also find this place perfect for special occasions without feeling overly formal. 🙂
Pizzeria Toledo – For a great Neapolitan pizza, Pizzeria Toledo is the best choice, although it’s slightly pricey. In general, Vienna has excellent pizzerias, as most are run by Italians. Of course, the more central you go, the more likely you’ll find touristy spots to avoid.
And as a true Italian, I can’t help but share a few more names of top-quality Italian pizzerias in Vienna: Pizzeria Randale, Casolaro Bros, Pizza Mari, Tesla Pizza, La Spiga, Pizzeria Sette (roman crispier pizza).
Pastamara – If you’re looking for something more refined, Pastamara is a Sicilian restaurant featured in the Michelin guide. With Italian staff and the freshest ingredients, everything is handmade, including the pasta (which is amazing!). Perfect for a special occasion. Naturally, prices are higher, but you can check them on their website. It’s located inside the Ritz Carlton.
Das Loft – One of the most famous restaurants in Vienna, offering a breathtaking view of the Danube and excellent food. Prices are high, so I’d recommend it only for special occasions. As always, you can check the menu and prices through the link.
Onyx – Sushi with a stunning view of St. Stephen’s Cathedral. A beautiful restaurant with high-quality fish! Again, watch out for the prices, which you can find in the link. Make sure to book in advance!
Daas Boothaus – Unfortunately, we haven’t tried this one yet, but if you’re around the Danube in the height of summer, it’s the perfect spot! Great reviews for the food and a beautiful view of the river. It’s not particularly elegant, but I still find it romantic for an aperitif or dinner.
That’s Amore – Italian dishes served in a romantic atmosphere.
This article will be constantly updated, so I recommend checking back from time to time as we never stop discovering new places. If you try any of the recommended spots, let me know how it went by tagging me on Instagram! You can find me at @angelaisai. I can’t wait to see your experiences! 😊
